(1920–1999) Born in Leeds Patrick Heron was also an art critic. His painting was interrupted by the war; in 1945 he settled in London and began to paint again. He was deeply influenced by the work of Georges Braque. Heron turned to abstract art alongside American abstract painters during the 1950’s, his concentration on colour is evident and often used his surroundings as inspiration. Heron is amongst a group of artists such as Barbara Hepworth, Peter Lanyon, Ben Nicholson and Kit Barker who lived and worked in St. Ives, Cornwall during late 1950’s.
